انتقدت الخارجية الأمريكية قرار إعادة دمشق للجامعة العربية بعد تجميد دام 12 عاما، قائلة إن “سوريا لا تستحق” هذه الخطوة في الوقت الحالي.
وقال متحدث باسم الخارجية الأمريكية، لم يكشف عن اسمه، في تصريح صحفي، إن واشنطن تتفق مع أهداف الشركاء العرب في سوريا، بما في ذلك بناء الأمن والاستقرار لكنها تبقى “متشككة من رغبة الأسد في اتخاذ الخطوات الضرورية لحل الأزمة السورية”.
وأضاف: “نعتقد أن سوريا لا تستحق إعادتها للجامعة العربية في هذا الوقت”، مؤكدا أن العقوبات الأمريكية ستظل نافذة، وفق ما نقلت وسائل إعلام أمريكية.
وقرر وزراء الخارجية العرب، الأحد، استئناف مشاركة وفود حكومة النظام السوري في اجتماعات مجلس جامعة الدول العربية وجميع المنظمات والأجهزة التابعة لها اعتبارا من اليوم، بحسب وكالة الأنباء المصرية والخارجية العراقية.
وتم تعليق مشاركة سوريا في اجتماعات الجامعة العربية ومنظماتها في 16 نوفمبر/ تشرين الثاني 2011، بناء على قرار من مجلس الجامعة على المستوى الوزاري عقب اجتماع طارئ، على خلفية قمع النظام السوري، الاحتجاجات الشعبية المطالبة بالتغيير.
