يستقبل المسجد الأموي والمواقع التاريخية المحيطة به في العاصمة السورية دمشق آلاف السياح يوميا بعد سقوط نظام بشار الأسد.
ولا يكتفي زائر المسجد بالصلاة فيه، بل يزور أيضا المعالم التاريخية والثقافية في المنطقة المحيطة به، لا سيما قبر صلاح الدين الأيوبي، بجوار المسجد.
كما يزور السياح قبور الطيارين الأتراك الثلاثة الذين حاولوا الطيران من إسطنبول إلى القاهرة عام 1914 ولكنهم فقدوا حياتهم أثناء الرحلة.
وقال عبد الرحمن يحيى، من أهالي دوما بريف دمشق، الذي جاء لزيارة مقبرة الشهداء الأتراك وقبر صلاح الدين الأيوبي إنه عندما بدأت الثورة في سوريا كان هناك الكثير من الضغوط عليهم ولم يتمكنوا من زيارة هذه الأماكن.
وأضاف يحيى: “عندما تعود دمشق إلى أهلها الأصليين، يستطيع الناس التجول وزيارة الأماكن بحرية”.
وأشار إلى أن الناس كانوا يخشون زيارة مقبرة الشهداء الأتراك وقبر صلاح الدين الواقعين بجانب المسجد الأموي في عهد نظام الأسد.
من جانبه، أعرب محمد فافيل عن انزعاجه من إهمال نظام الأسد لهذه المعالم التاريخية.
وأضاف فافيل: “النظام لم يهتم بهذه المعالم ولم يصلحها، والآن يتم تنظيفها والعناية بها”.
وفي 8 ديسمبر/ كانون الأول 2024 بسطت فصائل سورية سيطرتها على البلاد، منهية 61 عاما من حكم نظام البعث الدموي، و53 سنة من سيطرة عائلة الأسد.
