وكان المنتخب التركي تأهل إلى ثمن النهائي عن جدارة واستحقاق، بعد تربعه على قمة المجموعة السابعة برصيد 9 نقاط، ودون هزيمة، في ثلاث مباريات.
كما تغلب الأتراك على منتخبات اليابان وكندا الأعلى تصنيفا في مسيرتهم، وصعدوا إلى المركز الرابع عشر في التصنيف العالمي الحالي للاتحاد الدولي للكرة الطائرة، متقدمين مركزين عن مركزهم قبل انطلاق البطولة.
وتألق اللاعب التركي أديس لاغومدزيا بتسجيله 28 نقطة في اللقاء ليتصدر لائحة هدافي المباراة، فيما سجل زميله رمضان إيفي مانديراجي 15 نقطة، فيما سجل الهولندي ميشيل أهيي 24 نقطة.
وتستضيف الفلبين النسخة الواحدة والعشرين من البطولة لأول مرة، في الفترة من 12 ـ 28 سبتمبر/ أيلول الجاري، بمشاركة 32 منتخبا تم تقسيمهم إلى 8 مجموعات بواقع 4 فرق في كل مجموعة.
