قال وزير الخارجية اللبناني يوسف رجي إن وزير الخارجية السوري أسعد الشيباني أكد أن انتشار قوات بلاده على الحدود مع لبنان يهدف حصراً إلى ضبط الأمن ومنع أي خروقات أمنية أو عمليات تهريب.
جاء ذلك خلال حديثه الجانبي مع وزير الخارجية اللبناني يوسف رجي على هامش الاجتماع التشاوري الطارئ الذي عُقد في الرياض، حيث شدد الشيباني على أن سوريا لا تنوي التدخل في شؤون لبنان الداخلية بأي شكل من الأشكال.
وأكد أن الهدف الأساسي من الانتشار هو مواجهة أي خروقات أمنية أو عمليات تهريب عبر الحدود، في إطار الحفاظ على الاستقرار والأمن في المنطقة.
