أعلنت وزارة الدفاع التركية أن تركيا تمتلك ثاني أكبر جيش في حلف شمال الأطلسي “الناتو”، وتعد من بين خمس دول تقدم أكبر إسهام في عمليات ومهام الحلف.
وجاء ذلك في بيان نشرته الوزارة الأربعاء، بمناسبة الذكرى الـ74 لانضمام تركيا إلى الناتو في 18 فبراير/شباط 1952، بعد تأسيس الحلف عام 1949 عقب الحرب العالمية الثانية بهدف إنشاء منظومة دفاع جماعي في مواجهة التهديد السوفييتي آنذاك.
وأكد البيان أن تركيا، بوصفها عضواً قوياً وموثوقاً في الناتو، واصلت تقديم إسهامات مهمة للحلف منذ انضمامها، وستستمر في أداء دورها الفاعل خلال المرحلة المقبلة.
